Reserves go top, while First's march on!

Wrecclesham's First Team moved up to 2nd place in Division One, with their 6th win in 7 games in all competitions (scoring 53 goals in the process), with an assure 2-4 victory away to Abbey Rangers this weekend having dispatched Hammer United 12-1 the week before. Shea Fahy, Allan Green and Sheldon Grimes accompanied Division One's top scored Nick Sims on the score sheet this week although Sims was replaced in the second half with a suspected hamstring injury which may keep the striker sidelined over the next few weeks.

The Reserves meanwhile have moved up to 1st place in Division 4, while extending the unbeaten status in the league, with a dominant 2-1 win over Shalford Reserves and were in truth unfortunate to not win by a larger margin at The Recreation Ground. Having dominated the majority of the game and missed a handful of chances the home team found themselves behind after being caught on the break by Shalford. Keeper Jack Patfield tipped an initial shot from the left hand side of the box onto the far post but it fell to Shalfords feet 6 yards out and the ball was dispatched with ease into the Wrecclesham goal. Wrecclesham however pushed up a gear obviously feeling aggrieved to be behind and clawed their way back into the game with Mike Newton sweeping home from Luke Wainwrights freekick inside the box with 12 mins to go. Not content with a point, Wrecclesham continued to press for a winner and from another Wainwright set piece, this time a corner, the ball found its way into the net via a Shalford boot to give Wrecclesham the lead their play deserved. Undefeated over half a season the Reserves take on 2nd placed Hersham Res. next week in a top of the table clash that could prove pivotal in the race for the title.
