Reserves out of the Cup but better fortune for the First's

The update from last weekends fixtures.

The First team bounced back from another tight 4-3 loss to West Byfleet Albion the week before with a resounding 6-2 win over Chertsey Old Salesian completing a stunning double over the opposition having been the victors in a 10-0 thrashing earlier in the season.

This encounter was slightly closer, although Wrecclesham ran out comfortable winners again with Wrecclesham leading 6-0 up until the final quarter of an hour. Braces from Nick Sims, now top scorer in the league, and Shea Fahy were complimented by goals from Alan Green and Sheldon Grimes. The win took Wreccelsham's recent run to 4 wins from the last 5 games in all competitions and leaves the Wolves sitting in 4th Place in Division 1.

The Reserves were not so lucky this rememberance weekend and were left to rue missed chances vs Cheam Village Warriors as they were dumped out of the Surrey Junior Lower County Cup 5-3 on penalties having had the better of the 3-3 game in the 90 mins of regular time. An O.G. from the Cheam goalkeeper saw Wrecclesham take the lead but they were pegged back shortly after, a ball in from wide found the Cheam attacker in space at the back stick who headed home from 6 yards out. Wrecclesham then went behind to a deflected shot which looped over Keeper Jack Patfield in the Wolves net who nearly managed to tip the ball over the bar but the ball snuck over the line just under the cross bar. Alex Rigby then tapped home from Karl Smiths square ball in the six yard box to give Wolves parity before Smith scored himself to take the lead with 15m remaining. In the dying moments Wrecclesham were static to a second ball from a corner after the Cheam GK's header was cleared off the line only for Cheam to react first and slam the ball into the net to take the fixture to penalties.

Warren Thompson, Harry Venables, Alex Rigby all scored their penalties before Luke Wainwrights penalty was saved by the Cheam Keeper with Cheam scoring all five of their penalties.
